Announcing the Reel Infatuation Blogathon 2019

Whee! It’s time for the Reel Infatuation Blogathon!

This year, Reel Infatuation runs June 7-9, and we want to hear about your film/TV/book character crush. (You can check out our “primer” here, or click here for suggestions on how to participate without writing a blog post.)

Here are the Rules:

  • Remember: The character is the thing! We’re looking to hear all about specific character crushes, not generically dreamy performers.
  • Our main focus is cinema, but your character crushes may come from different media (television, books), any era (silents, early talkies, contemporary sources), any language, etc. Is your favourite character from a silent Italian film or a new Korean novel? Please share!
  • Duplicates and multiple entries are not only allowed, but encouraged. The more the merrier (or even The More the Merrier, co-starring multiple character crush Joel McCrea)…
  • Please post on the day of your choice.

His Fame Still Lives – Floreal Rameau (inspiration for Rudolph Valentino’s character) in A Sainted Devil (1924)

    Your poster reminded me of my love for Jane Richards as played by Dorothy Dandridge in Bright Road (1953). Also, Paro as played by the brilliant Suchitra Sen in the film Devdas (1955).

    There are so many to choose from. But I’ll take Robert De Niro in Midnight Run.

    If I could do two characters, I’d include Charles Grodin from that film. He and De Niro are like the Odd Couple on the road. Hilarious! 🙂

    Hi! This is lovely! May I please write about Sister Luke in The Nun’s Story? Having a crush on a nun may seem odd, but I just love Audrey in the film & the character is so gutsy

    Hello Ruth! I’ve made my decision and I’m quite pleased with it. I would love to write about Robert Young as David Linden in ‘The Shining Hour’ (1938). I’ve long had eyes for him and this is the perfect opportunity to pen an overdue love letter. 😀

        Thank you! 😀 It’s the first film in which I saw Robert and I just completely melted. I’ve seen him in many subsequent films and he is always the highlight for me. And yes, I’ll be honest – I wanted him to prevail in ‘Secret Agent’. 😉

    This was tough to narrow down…so, of course, I’m going with two choices: Leopold Dilg (Cary Grant) and Michael Lightcap (Ronald Colman) in 1942’s The Talk of the Town. Because of these guys, I basically want to be Jean Arthur in this film, haha.

    Dear Ruth,

    I would like to participate in this great blogathon again! I would like to write about one of Dr. Kildare’s casual suits in one of the nine MGM films in the Dr. Kildare series from 1938-1942, played by Lew Ayres. This would also be part of my weekly series about costumes in movies, Film Fashion Fridays. I would highlight how fascinating I find this character, in a white coat or a suit. Is that alright?

    Hey Ruth. I’ve been mulling over character crushes for this, and I think I will go with George Brent as Dr. Frederick Steele in “Dark Victory” ( 1939 ). He’s definitely great eye candy, and I’m in awe of his character in this.
